A presumed extinct Giant Tortoise was found in Galapagos

A adult female Fernandina Giant Tortoise species was found in Galapagos while being thought of its extinction


Ecuador's environment minister Marcelo Mata recent made an announcement that a 100 years old adult female Fernandina Giant Tortoise had been discovered in Galapagos. 

It was said to be one of the 14 giant tortise species in Galapagos however only 10 species were thought to survive due to human over hunting.

The Fernandina species were thought to be extinct due to volcanic eruptions in the previous centuries, said Galapagos Conservancy.The turtle is now taken to a breeding center in Santa Cruz Island.
